Jack came home from school today complaining of his feet hurting. I had the bright idea (HARHAR) that maybe, GASP, his shoes were too tight. After a bit of inspecting, I discovered that they were extremely tight. Like, unbelievably tight. So, we went to the mall to get him a new pair (because dang....it was bad), and we discovered that we had been cramming his size 8 foot into a size 6 shoe. Ooops.
We're listening to the WHS Lady Wildcat B'ball playoff game on the radio as I type. I feel like I'm on the movie Hoosiers...one of my fav movies of all time. From the sounds coming through the radio there is a good sized crowd there. The team has been drawing quite a crowd in the games leading up to this one, and it's a nice change to see. Our town is notorious for being fair weather fans, and I wish that the following that the team has brought in would stick around even when our teams aren't doing great. Or even better, if those sports fans would actually do something that counts like volunteering at the same school they're "fans" of. I'm not talking about at the elementary level. HAHA! Uh. No. God forbid those people that are willing to give up their evening at home with their family actually give of their time to come participate and volunteer and help out at the school during the SCHOOL DAY! GASP! Of course, the elementary has no prob with parents bringing cupcakes, Ha. But ask for parents willing to come work with the kids who need it, and all of a sudden the crowd disperses. You can forget about adults volunteering on a regular basis at the middle school/high school age. By volunteering, I'm talking about working with a kid who no one cares about or coming to check on that kid whose parents don't give a rats tooty. If only those fair weather sports fans (and even the devoted ones) would volunteer to work with a 10 year old who can't read, or write in cursive, or add/subtract/multiply/divide. Lord help us all if those bleachers full of folks so proud of themselves for attending a sporting event were to actually give a darn about bringing up our assessment scores or involving themselves in starting programs at the middle school and high school level....Where are those people? Hhhmmmm. Oh right. They're "at the game." What a difference it would make in our schools if everyone willing to watch a basketball game would donate the same amount of "support" to the side of school that is so much more important....the academic side. So, there is my soap box for the night. Gee, it was Topic Tuesday, and I didn't even know it.
