Sam spent 2 and a half hours writing, scratching out, drawing arrows, re-writing sentences and illustrating the following story today, and then claimed that "being an author" makes you very hungry. Original spellings intact except where Mommy was asked to help out:

The dog was swmming in the rivr. The dog catched a fish. The boy was hiking on a maountaiain. The camp house was a cabin but not really like a cabin. The dog came out of the water. A bobcat was riteon the bank. The dog killed it. Turn the page. The dog barked the boy for help! (picture of dog with hair standing on end here) The boy held a gun at the cheetah. The cheetah ran away and the boy andthe dog live happy barely after. The End.
