Tweeking

Day #2 was good, mostly. Sophy is having to tweek her preferences in comparison to her teacher's preferences. Hehe. Aaahhh, it could be a long year! Overall, I think things are good for the most part. At least, that is the pretend world I choose to live in at this point. Ha. We get out early Friday, and we have no school on Monday for Labor Day. The kids are ecstatic about that.

The kids started back at the gym this evening. I was lucky enough to get them all in the same fitness class, and I was pretty pleased with the coach we ended with and the variety of kids. There are 5 girls a year or so older than Sophy and about on the same level, and 3 boys all about the same level-which isn't quite the level the girls are on. Hehe. They were really pushed, and they were pooped by the end of the hour. The class starts off with 10-15 minutes of stretching and working on flexibility stuff. Next comes 10-15 minutes of floor work. For the girls this was working on round offs, cartwheels, one handed cartwheels and handstands. For the boys this was sit ups, push ups, and cartwheels. The boys could be pushed more on tumbling, but I don't really care if they ever can do a cartwheel or handspring, but I do want them to be able to get strong, have good cardio, balance, speed, etc. After the floor work, they do 20 minutes of trampoline. There are 6 gym trampolines built into the floor, and they do drills where they work on form, toe touches, pikes, flips, turns, spins, etc. This is Sophy's absolute favorite part. I've talked to Santa, and I believe we're getting a trampoline for Christmas this year. The kids will be so excited. Anyway, after the trampoline, they do 10 minutes or so launching over the vault or working on the cheese wedges, as the kids call them. Sophy's group worked on running into a cartwheel tonight while they stayed on a tape line on the floor. The kids get to spend the last 5 minutes free-playing on the rock wall and flinging themselves into the foam pit. I do believe this is the only reason the boys put up with the grueling hour of hard work. They love the rock wall. It's at least 25 feet high with a straight fall back into a pit of foam. I've actually used it myself once, and I was so scared I almost couldn't let go of the wall. Ha!

Gotta go get clothes laid out times four for tomorrow a.m., so we can blow out of here with all haste at the butt crack of dawn. Toodles~
